SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team jumped out to a 39-19 halftime lead and led wire-to-wire in a 73-60 victory over East Stroudsburg University in The Rock's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opener Wednesday afternoon from Morrow Field House.

Slippery Rock picks up its third straight victory to improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in PSAC games, marking the best start for the program since going 4-1 over the first five games in the 2015-16 season. East Stroudsburg slips to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in conference games.

The Rock opened the first quarter on a 13-2 run and pushed the advantage out to 39-19 by halftime after holding ESU under 30 percent shooting over the first 20 minutes.

The Warriors rallied with a 25-point showing in the third quarter and cut the deficit all the way down to six points, 56-50, in the fourth quarter, but SRU responded with a 5-0 run to push the lead back out to double-digits and held ESU at bay down the stretch.

Slippery Rock finished the game shooting 47.3 percent from the field (26-of-55), 43.8 percent from 3-point (7-of-16) and 73.7 percent from the free throw line (14-of-19). The Rock posted a 30-14 advantage in points in the paint and turned 19 ESU turnovers into a 24-15 advantage in points off turnovers.

ESU shot 36.0 percent from the floor (18-of-50), 29.4 percent from 3-point (5-of-17) and 86.4 percent from the free throw line (19-of-22).Â

Daeja Quick played all 40 minutes and paced The Rock offense with 20 points, six assists, five steals, three rebounds and just one turnover while running the point.

Jamiyah Johnson added her fifth double-double of the season with 19 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four blocks and three steals.
Anyah Curd made four-of-five 3-pointers and finished with 13 points and seven rebounds and
Isabellah Middleton scored 11 points to cap four players in double figures.

East Stroudsburg got 13 points, five rebounds and three steals from Izzy Vogel and 10 points each from Ryan Weise and Rachel Caputa.

Slippery Rock will look for a fourth straight win and its best start to a season since 1999-00 when Notre Dame (Ohio) travels to The Rock Saturday for a 1 p.m. non-conference game. It will mark the second meeting between the two teams this winter with SRU posting an 84-66 win over the Falcons in the season opener back on Nov. 13.
