Grover earns PSAC weekly award

Slippery Rock QB Noah Grover was named the PSAC West Offensive Athlete of the Week after setting a new program record with eight touchdown passes in The Rock's win over Gannon.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University quarterback Noah Grover was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Offensive Athlete of the Week for his performance in The Rock's win at Gannon Saturday.

Grover is Slippery Rock's sixth PSAC Athlete of the Week this season and fifth Offensive Athlete of the Week as SRU has earned the offensive award in five of 10 weeks this season.

The junior from Phoenix, Arizona earns his first PSAC weekly award after making his first career start for The Rock on Saturday at Gannon. To say he acclimated well to the pressures of his first start at SRU would be a gross understatement.

Grover played just 54 seconds into the fourth quarter before exiting the game with one of the best single-game quarterback performances in program history. He completed 32-of-40 passes for 439 yards with eight touchdowns to go along with no interceptions and no sacks. He also ran for 16 yards to finish with 455 yards of total offense.

The eight touchdown passes are the most in a game by any quarterback in Division II this season and set a new Slippery Rock program record, breaking the former record of seven that was set by Don King III against East Stroudsburg in 2016.

Slippery Rock held the ball for more than 41 minutes and put up a season-high 671 yards of total offense in a 63-21 victory, its highest offensive output since setting the program record of 795 yards against Seton Hill in November of 2017.

Grover connected with eight different receivers in the game, including five that finished with at least 60 receiving yards and a touchdown as he spread the ball all over the field.

The victory improved Slippery Rock to 8-1 overall and sets up a PSAC West title game at home this week against undefeated and fourth-ranked California University (Pa.). The winner of Saturday's 1 p.m. game at The Rock will represent the PSAC West in the 2021 PSAC title game Nov. 13 at Kutztown after the Golden Bears wrapped up at least a share of the Eastern Division crown last week.
