No. 23 Rock loses at Clarion, 2-1

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team lost on the road to Clarion, 2-1, in PSAC West play Saturday night.

CLARION Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team lost on the road to Clarion University, 2-1, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division play Saturday night.

With the loss, SRU snaps a four-game winning streak and falls to 8-2-1 overall and 7-2-0 in the PSAC West. Clarion improves to 3-5-1 overall as well as in the conference.
 
The Rock struck first on offense in the sixth minute with Jordyn Minda scoring what would be their lone of the match, as well as her fourth on the year, on an assist from Julia Mascaro which marked her third this season. In 90 minutes, Emma Yoder made two saves while allowing two goals.
 
The Golden Eagles quickly answered back five minutes later when Kylee Cross beat a couple Rock defenders and laid a shot of her own past Yoder.
 
Clarion followed up its initial score in minute 14 with an insurance goal by Madison Spitko this time assisted by Cross giving the Golden Eagles a 2-1 lead. Both defenses stood strong and did not allow another goal through the remainder of the first half.
 
After the break, The Rock dominated the offensive end controlling most of the possession time as well as taking 16 shots, forcing goalkeeper Alexandra Velez to make 11 saves, compared to Clarion's one shot through the entirety of the second half.
 
Helping Minda (3 shots, 3 shots on goal) on the Slippery Rock offensive attack was Kayla Swope (6 shots, 4 shots on goal), Rachel Edge (5 shots, 1 shot on goal), Katy Ericson (2 shots, 2 shots on goal) as well as Mascaro, Emily Arnold, Nina King, Georgia Nagucki and Sydney Patrick one shot on goal each.
 
Slippery Rock held the advantage in shots (22-4), shots on goal (15-4) and corner kicks (9-0).
 
The Rock continues their two-game road swing at the University of Pitt-Johnstown for a PSAC West matchup 4 p.m. Oct. 13.
