Rock battles back for 3-3 tie vs. Pitt-Johnstown

After trailing by two goals at halftime, the Slippery Rock women's soccer team rallied to force a 3-3 tie Wednesday in a PSAC West road match at Pitt-Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team tied the University of Pitt-Johnstown, 3-3, Wednesday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division road match.

With the tie The Rock moves to 8-2-2 overall and 7-2-1 in the PSAC West while Pitt-Johnstown records a 3-8-1 mark overall and 2-7-1 in the conference.

SRU rallied to score three goals in the second half from Jordyn Minda, Georgia Nagucki and Kayla Swope to pull even with the Mountain Cats and force overtime that led to an eventual tie.

Trailing 2-0 to start the second half, SRU began its comeback in the 50th minute on a goal by Nagucki, her fifth of the season.

Following quickly after Nagucki's goal was Minda who netted her fifth score of the year with a put back shot off a Mountain Cat defender to even the score 2-2.

Following Minda's goal, UPJ re-took the lead as the Mountain Cats became the first team to score a goal in the second half this season against The Rock as Emily Esser beat goalkeeper Emma Yoder in the 60th minute.

However, at 74:51 Nagucki dished a ball to Swope who promptly buried her fifth goal of the year. The Rock defense would hold on and not allow another shot from UPJ for the remainder of regulation to force overtime.

Through two overtime periods SRU would produce five shots while Pitt-Johnstown would tally six. Neither team was able to register the golden goal leading to a 3-3 tie.

Although the Mountain Cats scored the game's first two goals, SRU ended the match holding a sizable advantage in overall shots (28-18), shots on goal (13-8) and corner kicks (12-3).

In addition to the goal scorers, Rachel Edge (2), Sydney Patrick (2), Reagan Reeves (2), Kylee Kosek (1), Julia Mascaro (1) and Megan Sikora (1) all placed at least one shot on goal for The Rock.

Emma Yoder played the duration of Wednesdays contest, making five saves.

The Rock returns to action at home to host Seton Hill for their Homecoming match 12 p.m. Saturday.
