SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team defeated Indiana University (Pa.), 2-0, in its Senior Day match Saturday at James Egli Field.
The win improves The Rock's record to 10-3-2 on the season overall and 9-3-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division while IUP moves to 7-5-1 and 6-5-1 in the division following the loss.
The Rock's win featured
Sydney Patrick netting her fourth goal of the season on a
Megan Sikora assist while
Rachel Edge tallied her team-high 10th goal of the year on a perfectly placed pass from
Jordyn Minda.
Aiding Edge and Patrick in SRU's offensive attack was
Kylee Kosek,
Reagan Reeves and
Kayla Swope who all took one shot apiece.
Emma Yoder collected her 17th career shutout victory after making two saves during 90 minutes.
Slippery Rock was able to score a goal in each half of play while holding off the Crimson Hawk offense en route to securing The Rock's 46th shutout victory under the guidance of head coach
Jessica Giegucz.
In the 20th minute Slippery Rock was awarded a corner kick that Sikora sent into play and found the head of Patrick, who in turn netted what would be the only goal of the first half to give The Rock a 1-0 advantage.
Coming out of the break, the senior duo of Minda and Edge went to work with Minda putting a flawless through ball to the foot of Edge who fired a shot past goalkeeper Samantha Glidner, extending The Rock's lead to 2-0 in the 67th minute.
Slippery Rock held IUP to just two shots, both of which went wide, following Edge's goal on the way to the shutout victory.
Slippery Rock held advantages over Indiana in total shots (9-5), shots on goal (5-2) and corner kicks (17-1).
The Rock returns to action in a PSAC West matchup against California University (Pa.) 1 p.m. Oct. 27 at James Egli Field.
