Rock football stays No. 6 in DII poll

Slippery Rock held steady at No. 6 in this week's AFCA Division II national poll as there was no movement among the top 10 teams following week six of the season.

AFCA Poll

WACO, Texas – The Slippery Rock University football team stayed at No. 6 in this week's American Football Coaches Association Division II national rankings that were released Monday.

For the first time this season, the top 10 in the poll remain unchanged from the previous week with no movement among the top teams in the country.

The Rock opened the year ranked fifth in the AFCA preseason poll, widely regarded as the official national ranking used by the NCAA throughout the season, and has been ranked between fifth and eighth in every poll released this fall.

Defending national champion West Florida continues to hold down the top spot in the rankings. Northwest Missouri State is ranked second, followed by Ferris State, Valdosta State and Colorado School of Mines. Slippery Rock held steady at No. 6, followed by Grand Valley State at No. 7, Wingate at No. 8, Henderson State at No. 9 and West Alabama at No. 10.

Slippery Rock is one of only 13 teams left in Division II to be undefeated on the year and one of only six teams in the country to be undefeated through six games played. The other seven unbeatens have either played four or five games this fall.

Three of those eight 6-0 teams come from Super Region One with Slippery Rock leading the way at No. 6 this week. Cal U moved up two more places to No. 13 this week and Bentley from the Northeast-10 moved up one spot to No. 17.

Super Region One has six teams ranked in the top 25 this week. Cal U follows SRU at No. 13 as the second highest ranked team from the region. Notre Dame (Ohio) held steady at No. 14 this week, Shepherd moved up one spot to No. 15, Bentley climbed one place to No. 17 and Kutztown came back into the poll at No. 25.

Slippery Rock's opponent this week, Indiana (Pa.), just missed cracking the top 25 and is the first team listed in the "others receiving votes" section of the poll. The Crimson Hawks are joined by Frostburg State, Charleston (W.Va.), Shippensburg and Ohio Dominican as Super Region One teams receiving votes this week.

Slippery Rock will look to improve to 7-0 for the second straight year when it hosts Indiana (Pa.) Saturday at 1 p.m. in the annual Homecoming game.
