Former SRU track athletes to compete on "American Ninja Warrior"

Slippery Rock University graduates and former track and field athletes Sabrina Anderson and Krista Caldwell will compete at the Baltimore taping for the 11th season "American Ninja Warrior" April 28-29.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Former Slippery Rock University track and field athletes Sabrina Anderson and Krista Caldwell will compete April 28-29 at the Baltimore taping for the 11th season of the NBC television program "American Ninja Warrior."

"American Ninja Warrior" follows competitors as they tackle a series of challenging obstacle courses in both city qualifying and city finals rounds across the country. Those that successfully complete the finals course in their designated region move on to the national finals round, where they face a stunning four-stage course modeled after the famed Mt. Midoriyama course in Japan. The overall winner of the season takes home a grand prize of $1 million.

Both Anderson and Caldwell received undergraduate and advanced degrees from Slippery Rock while competing for the track and field team.

Anderson earned her undergraduate degree in exercise science in 2016 and finished her master's degree in business administration in just one year, graduating in 2017 after taking more than 170 credit hours in four years while becoming one of the most decorated track and field athletes in program history. She was a three-time Academic All-American, was twice named the PSAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year, was named to six PSAC Top 10 teams, won three PSAC individual titles, set the all-time PSAC record in the pentathlon, was a first team All-American and was one of three Division II women to be named a national finalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award in 2017.

Since graduating, Anderson has pursued a career as a personal trainer while also continuing her own athletic career. She switched sports from track and field and is currently a member of the USA Bobsled and Skeleton development team, where she is focusing on making the team USA roster in the skeleton. This will mark her second appearance on American Ninja Warrior after also competing in 2017. She failed to reach the regional finals in that competition after competing on an ankle that was injured during her senior year of track and field and required surgery following the show.

Caldwell earned her undergraduate degree in exercise science from SRU in 2015. After concluding her career on the cross country and track and field teams, she went on to earn her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from The Rock in 2018.

During her athletic career at Slippery Rock, Caldwell shined as a distance runner and specialized in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on the track. The highlight of her career came in 2013 when she won the steeplechase at the Dave Labor Invitational to qualify for the PSAC championships, where she posted a career-best during the championship finals.

Since graduating, Caldwell has shifted from specializing in distance running to all-around fitness, which led her to "ninja training" and sparked her interest in "American Ninja Warrior." She is currently employed as an outpatient physical therapist at Premier Orthopedics in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania and will making her first appearance on the show this year.

The 11th season of "American Ninja Warrior" will tape opening rounds in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Oklahoma City, Baltimore, Seattle and Cincinnati before the finals take place June 18-23 in Las Vegas.

Due to the nature of pre-taped television shows and non-disclosure agreements, the results will not be known until the show airs this summer. The season debut is scheduled to air on NBC Wednesday, May 29 from 8-10 p.m. before moving to its regular Monday evening slot June 10 from 8-10 p.m.
