Rock levels PSAC record with 11-8 win over Edinboro

Slippery Rock outscored Edinboro 9-4 over the final 42 minutes to come away with an 11-8 win Wednesday that improved The Rock to 5-1 at home and 4-4 in PSAC play.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team outscored Edinboro University 9-4 over the final 42 minutes Wednesday to come away with an 11-8 victory in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
 
The win marked the first time this season Slippery Rock has strung together back-to-back victories and improves The Rock to 5-6 overall, 5-1 in home games and an even 4-4 in PSAC play. It also marked the first time in a stretch of six games that SRU scored more than 10 goals in an outing. Edinboro slips to 1-11 overall and 1-7 in PSAC games with the loss.
 
The Fighting Scots scored the opening goal just 2:04 into the first period and led 4-2 with 12 minutes to play in the first half before Slippery Rock put together a 3-1 run to close the half tied at 5-5.
 
The Rock added three more goals to open the second half and jumped out to an 8-5 lead with 21:03 to play. Edinboro would cut the deficit back to two goals on two occasions, but would get no closer.
 
Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 30-24 in total shots, 35-27 in ground balls and 12-9 in draw controls. Both teams struggled with possession throughout the day and combined for 65 turnovers and 23 failed clear attempts. Edinboro turned it over 31 times and went 18-of-33 on the clear, while SRU finished 17-of-25 on the clear with 34 total turnovers.
 
Both goalkeepers were among the standout players for each team as Rock goalie Haley Barrett and Edinboro goalie Candace McDole combined for 29 saves. McDole kept her team in the game with 16 total saves and helped to hold SRU to 4-of-14 on free position attempts. Barrett finished with 13 saves, including eight in the second half.
 
Jordan Grey paced The Rock attack with a hat trick to go along with three draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Kelly Muenster also notched three points with one goal and two assists. Katie Dlugosz and Tori Penders each found the back of the net twice and ShyAnne Toomer and Molly Buettner each scored one goal and handed out one assist to give Slippery Rock six players with multiple points.
 
Francesca Lindelow capped the goal scorers for SRU, while Hayley Pimentel, Sami Gentzler and Emily Benham each added one assist to give The Rock 10 different point scorers.
 
Danie Porath led the defensive effort with four caused turnovers and five ground balls. Toomer also had four caused turnovers to account for eight of SRU's 22 caused turnovers in the game.

Edinboro was paced offensively by Anna Leva, who scored a game-high six points on five goals and one assist.
 
Wednesday's win improves Slippery Rock to an unbeaten 13-0 all-time against Edinboro.
 
The Rock will now turn their focus to a pair of crucial road games that could determine the team's playoff fate. SRU will first travel to Bloomsburg Saturday for an 11 a.m. game (originally scheduled for 1 p.m.) before visiting Mercyhurst next Tuesday.
