CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost a road Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon at California University (Pa.).

The Vulcans (12-12, 7-9 PSAC) narrowly edged The Rock (7-20, 2-13 PSAC) in the opening set, 25-22, before closing the match with 25-19, 25-16 victories over the second and third set.

Slippery Rock was led on Saturday by the duo of
Erinn Kahoe and
Abigail Nigon. Kahoe turned in a seven-kill, four-block performance in which she recorded a Rock-best .238 attack percentage while Nigon continued her strong freshman season with a match-high seven blocks as well as four kills.

With two matches remaining in the regular season, Nigon has produced 75 blocks on the year; the fourth most by a Slippery Rock freshman in program history.

In addition to totaling seven kills,
Kaley Fucci also added a team-high 14 digs, one ace and one block.
Gabby Huck and
Lauren Crytzer added to the attack with four kills and two kills, respectively. Both players also registered one block each.

Lauren Weber served a pair of aces and made 11 digs,
Stephanie Jacobsen had 12 digs and
Zoe Rivet produced 23 assists, 10 digs, two blocks, two kills and one ace to round out The Rock's top contributors.

For the match, Cal U held advantages over The Rock in kills (40-26), aces (9-4) and attack percentage (.185-.080). SRU finished with the edge in total blocks against the Vulcans (8.0-3.0).Madison Kline and Sarah Moehring had 11 kills apiece to pace California.

Slippery Rock led for much of the opening set, but with SRU ahead 17-16 the Vulcans went on a 4-0 run that The Rock could never recover from in the eventual 25-22 defeat.

A mid-set run also doomed Slippery Rock in the second set as Cal U turned a slim three-point, 14-11, advantage into an eight-point lead via an 8-3 run en route to the 25-19 victory. SRU trailed by just two points at 15-13 midway through the third set when California scored seven straight points to break the set open before finishing out the 25-16 match-deciding win.

Slippery Rock will conclude its three-match road trip 7 p.m. Tuesday at Clarion University.
