GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost in four sets on the road at Seton Hill University Friday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference competition.
Â
The Rock (7-19, 2-12 PSAC) and Seton Hill (15-9, 10-5 PSAC) split the opening two sets with the Griffins taking the opener, 25-15, and SRU winning the second set, 25-20. However, SHU went on to post back-to-back wins 25-20 and 25-18 en route to the win.
Â
Gabby Huck led The Rock with a career-high 18 kills.
Kaley Fucci chipped in 14 kills for SRU as well in addition to making 11 digs and one block.
Â
Erinn Kahoe added nine kills and two blocks with
Lauren Crytzer and
Abigail Nigon rounding out the attack with five kills and four kills, respectively. Crytzer and Nigon also tallied two blocks each.
Â
Stephanie Jacobsen made a team-best 22 digs while serving one of SRU's two aces as well.
Lauren Weber came up with The Rock's other ace.
Zoe Rivet guided the offense with 41 assists to go with 11 digs.
Â
Slippery Rock and Seton Hill traded points early on before the Griffins went on a 7-2 run to take a 12-6 lead over SRU and force a Rock timeout. The break in action did little to slow the Seton Hill momentum as the Griffins closed out the opening set on a 13-9 spurt for the 25-15 victory.
Â
The Rock answered back in the second set in fine fashion. After taking the opening three points of the set, Slippery Rock went on to stretch its lead out to 5-1 and later 12-5 before Seton Hill called its first timeout of the match. The Rock firmly withstood Seton Hill's comeback bid coming out of the timeout as SRU closed out the set via a 25-20 victory to even the match.
Â
After Seton Hill built a 15-9 lead to start the third set Slippery Rock methodically chipped away at the deficit, eventually pulling to within two points of the Griffins at 18-16, but The Rock was never quite able to complete the rally as SHU hung on for a 25-20 win.
Â
SRU held an early 6-5 lead in the fourth, but SHU took six of the next seven points to pull ahead 11-7. Slippery Rock went on to cut its deficit to one point on three separate occasions, but the Griffins fended off the charge on the way to a match-clinching 25-18 victory.
Â
For the match, Seton Hill held advantages over The Rock in kills (54-51), attack percentage (.265-.184), digs (78-68), aces (9-2) and blocks (7-4). Viktoria Farian and Jillian Livorse had 19 kills each in the win.
