Rivers III, Lutz headline 14 All-PSAC nods for SRU

Roland Rivers III was named the PSAC West Offensive Athlete of the Year and Shawn Lutz was named the PSAC West Coach of the Year to headline 14 SRU selections to the All-PSAC team.

All-PSAC Announcement

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University earned 14 selections on the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division team that was announced Wednesday, headlined by Offensive Athlete of the Year Roland Rivers III and Coach of the Year Shawn Lutz.

The Rock had a total of eight players named to first team All-PSAC honors and an additional six players named to second team honors.

Rivers headlined the offensive selections with a second consecutive first team nod. He was joined on the first team offense by left tackle Chris Larsen, left guard Ryan Podgorski, wide receiver Henry Litwin and placekicker Jake Chapla. Right tackle Jake Tecak was named to second team honors, as was receiver Jermaine Wynn Jr., who made the second team as both a wide receiver and as a return specialist.

The Rock defense placed three players on the first team with linemen Chad Kuhn and Jeff Marx joining linebacker Brad Zaffram. Defensive backs Eric Glover-Williams and Khadir Roberts were named to the second team defense and Chapla was named as the second team punter.

Lutz earns his second consecutive PSAC West Coach of the Year honor after leading The Rock to back-to-back PSAC West regular season titles with perfect 7-0 records. Lutz also guided SRU to the 2019 PSAC championship, a perfect 11-0 regular season and No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II playoffs. Currently in his fourth season at the helm of the program, Lutz has guided SRU to a 37-10 record, two PSAC West titles and two NCAA playoff appearances.

"I appreciate the other coaches in the league recognizing me with this honor for a second year in a row," said Lutz. "But this award should have a lot more names on it than just mine. This award belongs to our entire coaching staff. These guys put in so many hours and dedicate so much of themselves to getting the best out of our team. I will definitely be sharing this with our whole staff."

Rivers was selected as the first team quarterback for the second year in a row and took home the Offensive Athlete of the Year honor after finishing his two-year stint as the SRU starting quarterback with a perfect 14-0 record against the PSAC West. This season, Rivers has the best quarterback numbers of any player in the nation. He is the only player to account for 4,000 yards of total offense so far in 2019 and leads the nation in passing efficiency (192.7), touchdown passes (40) and points responsible for (278), while ranking third nationally in completion percentage (72.1 percent) and passing yards (3,409).

Slippery Rock is the No. 1 seed in Super Region One in the NCAA playoffs and has a first round bye this week. The Rock will host the winner of this week's Shepherd at Indiana (Pa.) first round game next Saturday, Nov. 30, in the second round. Kickoff in that game is set for 1 p.m.
