Rock loses at Millersville, 3-0

The Slippery Rock volleyball team lost in three sets Saturday afternoon on the road at Millersville.

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest on the road at Millersville University Saturday afternoon, 3-0.

Slippery Rock exits the weekend with a 7-14 overall record and a 2-7 mark in league competition while the Marauders improve to 17-6 overall and 7-3 in the PSAC.

The Marauders jumped out to a 15-9 lead in the opening set, but The Rock battled back with an 11-5 run to even the score at 20-20. From there, SRU and Millersville went back-and-forth until the Marauders took the final two points of the set for a narrow 28-26 win.

Millersville went on to take 10 of the first 15 points in the second set as SRU was unable to rally in an eventual 25-17 defeat. MU would finish the shutout in the third set thanks in part to a 6-0 run halfway through the set en route to the 25-17 match-deciding victory.

As was the case in SRU's match on Friday against West Chester, Abigail Koeller once again led The Rock in kills Saturday as she posted nine in addition to five digs and two blocks.

Kaley Fucci and Sophie Varndell added eight kills apiece with Fucci also making a Rock-best 16 digs. Erinn Kahoe chipped in five kills to go with her team-best three blocks as well.

Zoe Rivet passed out 27 assists while serving two aces and making a pair of blocks. Rivet now leads the PSAC in aces in 2019 with 38.

Stephanie O'Donnell (two kills / one block), Stephanie Jacobsen (one ace / 12 digs), Gabby Huck (one ace) and Danielle Bywalski (10 digs) rounded out The Rock's top contributors Saturday.

For the match, Millersville held advantages over Slippery Rock in kills (45-33), attack percentage (.256-.099), aces (6-4) and blocks (6-5).

Slippery Rock will make a swing around Erie, Pennsylvania 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at Gannon University and 3 p.m. Oct. 26 at Edinboro University.
