CALIFORNIA, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost in three sets at California University (Pa.) Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference competition at the Cal Convocation Center.
Slippery Rock held a 22-20 lead over the Vulcans in the opening set, but California rallied back by scoring five of the final six points in the set to take the opener 25-23.
SRU held an early 7-3 advantage in the second set, but a 12-5 run at the end of the set gave California an eventual 25-18 win. The third set completely belonged to California as the Vulcans opened up a quick 17-6 lead en route to the match-deciding 25-15 victory.

Beth Stumpf paced The Rock with a team-high 12 kills while freshman
Gabby Huck and junior
Kaley Fucci added six and five kills, respectively. Senior
Shayla Ray and sophomore
Erinn Kahoe rounded out SRU's attack with a combined seven kills. Ray also had three blocks on the day.
Junior
Zoe Rivet guided the offense with 25 assists while sophomore
Jalyn Willard made a match-best 23 digs.
Sarah Moehring and Lois van Schalk totaled 24 kills for the Vulcans in the win. Schalk also had four aces. California held a .242 to .121 advantage in attack percentage.
Slippery Rock starts a three-match homestand 7 p.m. Oct. 2 against Edinboro University at Morrow Field House.
