Match Highlights
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Behind an efficient and balanced attack, the Slippery Rock University volleyball team defeated Edinboro University, 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-19) Tuesday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Northwest Division match at Morrow Field House.

The victory improves The Rock's record to 5-10 overall and 2-5 in PSAC contests. The Fighting Scots drop to 8-8 overall and 1-6 in league matches in 2018 with the loss.

As a team, Slippery Rock finished the night with a .267 attack percentage, its second highest total of the season. The Rock also held advantages over the Fighting Scots in aces (7-2) and kills (41-38). Both teams registered seven total blocks.

The Rock's middle hitter duo of senior
Shayla Ray and sophomore
Erinn Kahoe dominated the match. Ray totaled 10 kills and five blocks while Kahoe notched nine kills, two aces and three rejections of her own. The pair compiled an impeccable combined attack percentage of .531 (19-2-32).

Beth Stumpf tallied a match-high 12 kills to go with 11 digs and a pair of aces for her sixth double-double of the season. Junior
Kaley Fucci rounded out The Rock's leading attackers with six kills in addition to two aces, three blocks, 10 digs and a .286 attack percentage.

Jalyn Willard matched Stumpf for the team lead in digs with 11 while also serving up an ace. Junior setter
Zoe Rivet dished out a match-best 28 assists over the three sets to guide The Rock's offense.

Slippery Rock will look to carry over Tuesday's momentum into the weekend starting Friday against Indiana University (Pa.). First serve from Morrow Field House is set for 7 p.m.

NOTES
• Tuesday was Slippery Rock's first three-set win of the season.

• SRU lost seven straight matches to the Fighting Scots from 2013-16, but has now won two of the last three contests in the series.

• Since recording just one block over a three-match stretch Sept. 8-14, Ray has bounced back to total 22 blocks over The Rock's last six matches.

• Ray exits Tuesday's match now ranked fifth in the PSAC in hitting percentage at .318. Other Rock athletes ranking among the PSAC's best include Willard (ninth in digs per set – 5.11) Rivet (10th in assists per set – 8.47) and Kahoe (11th in blocks per set – 0.96).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – Edinboro jumped out to a 13-9 lead in the opening set, but The Rock promptly came alive with a furious rally that featured a 16-4 run to give SRU the opener, 25-17. Slippery Rock finished the first set with a .452 attack percentage. Ray, Stumpf and Kahoe had five kills apiece in the first set.

Set 2 – The Fighting Scots once again jumped out to an early lead, but their 14-11 edge midway through the set would not last, as Slippery Rock responded by completely erasing its deficit with a 4-0 run. Both teams proceeded to trade points through the waning moments of the second, but SRU sealed the victory by taking the game's final three points for the impressive 25-23 come-from behind win.

Set 3 – Slippery Rock set the tone for the third set early by registering six of the opening seven points. Edinboro chipped away at The Rock's advantage and even led late in the set at 18-16 before Slippery Rock put the set away with a 5-0 run that opened up a 21-18 lead en route to the eventual 25-19 triumph. Stumpf had four kills in the final set.
