SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game at home against East Stroudsburg University, 2-0, Saturday at James Egli Field.
Tyler Spence and
Madison Johnson recorded the only shots on goal for The Rock in the loss.
Both teams remained scoreless throughout the first half, but ESU tallied two goals in the second period to win the contest, 2-0.
The Warriors almost took an early lead in the 10th minute when Monica Wood fired a shot on target, but it Rock goalkeeper,
Kylie Downs, made the save.
SRU responded with a shot of its own when
Sofia Harrison received an entry pass on a corner kick and sent a header on target in the 12th minute, but it was blocked.
ESU closed out the half with a shot from Faith Reash, however it was blocked, and both teams entered the break scoreless.
At 59:15, East Stroudsburg broke the scoreless tie when Alex Pickett received a pass into the box and put the shot past Downs for the score, and the Warriors took the lead, 1-0.
In the 72nd minute, ESU's Amy Strauser scored to make it a 2-0 advantage off an assist from Mallory Johnson.
The Rock responded with a shot on frame of their own when Spence got free in the box and fired one, but East Stroudsburg goalkeeper, Mauri Jackson, made the save.
With five and a half minutes remaining in the contest, Johnson sent a header on target, but Jackson made the save, and East Stroudsburg held on for the win, 2-0.
Slippery Rock falls to 6-3-2 overall and 4-3-2 in PSAC play while ESU improves to 7-2-1 and 7-1-1 in league games.

GOAL: ESU 2, ROCK 0; 71:48: Played in from the left side of the box by Johnson, finished by Strauser.
GAME NOTES
- Slippery Rock has not won a contest since Sept. 18 against Edinboro in a 1-0 affair.
- The Warriors outshot The Rock, 13-7, overall and 7-2 in shots on goal.
- Downs made five saves in goal for SRU.
- It was just the second time that Slippery Rock has been held scoreless in a contest this season.
- ESU now leads the all-time series against SRU, 14-10-4. Slippery Rock has not won a game against East Stroudsburg since 2013.
