Rock battles Lock Haven to a draw, 0-0

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team played PSAC opponent, Lock Haven, to a scoreless draw Friday afternoon at James Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team played Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference counterpart, Lock Haven University, to a scoreless draw Friday afternoon at James Egli Field.
 
The Rock and the Bald Eagles tied in shots at the end of the first period, 5-5, but LHU out shot SRU in the second half, 9-2. The two teams tied in shots in the first overtime, 1-1, and Lock Haven led Slippery Rock in the second overtime period in shots, 2-1.
 
SRU goalkeeper Emma Yoder made a career-high nine saves and earned a shutout.
 
At the end of the first period, Rachel Edge nearly gave SRU the lead in the 40th minute when she fired a header that just went wide.
 
Just a few moments later, LHU's Marah Foltz fired a shot, but it was blocked and both teams entered the break scoreless.
 
The second half was mostly Lock Haven on the attack and the Bald Eagles nearly took the lead at 72:29 when Janelle Swartz sent a shot on target, but Yoder made the save. Haleigh Swam sent another shot on net a few moments later, but Yoder was there for the stop.
 
After not much action in the first overtime period, just 56 seconds into the second overtime, Reagan Reeves got loose in the box and fired a shot, but it was saved by Lock Haven goalkeeper, Bree Hilty. It was SRU's only shot on goal all game.
 
LHU nearly won the game at 108:28 when Josie Swartz sent a shot on target, but it went high. Eventually the clock would wind down, and the game ended in the 0-0 draw.

GAME NOTES
  • It was SRU's first tie since Oct. 18, 2017 when it played Mercyhurst to a 2-2 draw.
  • Yoder and goalkeeper Kylie Downs have combined for seven shutouts in goal for The Rock.
  • It was the first time since Nov. 1, 2016 in a game at East Stroudsburg that SRU had only one shot on goal.
  • Slippery Rock has not surrendered a goal since Sept. 5, 2018 in its 2-1 loss at Indiana (Pa.).
