Rock shuts out Clarion, 1-0

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team shut out Clarion Wednesday night in PSAC play, 1-0. Jordyn Minda scored SRU’s only goal off an assist by Rachel Edge.

CLARION, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team shut out Clarion University Wednesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play, 1-0. Jordyn Minda tallied SRU's lone goal off an assist by Rachel Edge.
 
In the first half, Slippery Rock nearly got on the board at 17:33 when Sarah Blue fired a shot on target, but goalkeeper Krista Mosi made the save.
 
At 38:01, Rachel Edge sent one on net, but it was blocked by the Clarion defense.
 
CU nearly took a 1-0 lead after Leann Wynder let a shot loose, but Rock goalkeeper Emma Yoder made the save.
 
SRU broke through at 53:15 when Minda received a ball from Edge and she played it into the net for the score. It was her third goal of the 2018 campaign and Edge's fourth assist of the season.
 
The Golden Eagles nearly tied the game at 81:48 when Meliah Roman sent a shot on target, but Yoder was there for the save. The Rock held on for the victory, 1-0.
 
Yoder earned her first career victory and shutout in goal for The Rock making eight saves.
 
With the win, SRU improves to 4-1 on the season and 3-1 in league games, while CU falls to 0-5 overall and 0-5 in PSAC games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GOAL: ROCK 1, CU 0; 53:15: Edge fed a pass to Minda who put it past the keeper.
 
 
GAME NOTES
  • Slippery Rock and Clarion tied in total shots at 11 apiece, but CU held the advantage in shots on goal, 8-4.
  • All four of SRU's wins have been shut out victories.
  • Minda now leads the team in total point on three goals. All three of her scores have been game winners.
  • Yoder made the first start of her Rock career earning her first victory and shutout.
  • The Rock are tied for second in the conference in the least amount of goals surrendered and tied for fourth in shutouts with four.

Slippery Rock will take a quick break from league play and travel to Walsh for a non-conference contest 6 p.m. Saturday.
