SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team defeated No. 22 West Virginia Wesleyan College 1-0 with a goal from junior
Kaitlyn Barackman in the 10th minute. The Rock's defense held off the Bobcats' attack en route to a victory.
In the 10th minute, Slippery Rock was on the attack as
Skye Kramer got behind the defense to send a crossing pass into Barackman who put it past the keeper and gave The Rock a 1-0 lead.
Barackman's goal was her first of the 2018 campaign. She tallied two shots including the one on goal. Other offensive contributors were Kramer, who managed an assist and a shot on goal, and
Madison Johnson who fired a shot on goal.
Goalkeeper
Kylie Downs was rarely tested making just one save in all 90 minutes played and earned the win. In fact, the defense only surrendered three shots to stave off the West Virginia Wesleyan attack. The Rock controlled possession for the majority of the contest consistently keeping the ball in the offensive zone.
With the win, The Rock improves to 1-0-0 on the season while the Bobcats fall to 0-1-0.
