LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University defensive back
Eric Glover-Williams was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week for his performance in The Rock's 44-21 win on the road at California (Pa.).
Â
Glover-Williams, a junior transfer from Ohio State, earns his first PSAC weekly honor on the heels of his best game at SRU. The Canton, Ohio native recorded an interception and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown in the second half to go along with three total tackles, one solo sack and two pass breakups as The Rock claimed the PSAC West title with a convincing win.
Â
California entered the game with the top ranked passing attack in the PSAC West, but was limited to a 39 percent completion percentage, 184 passing yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. The Vulcans also entered the game ranked first in the nation in sacks allowed, giving up just three in the first eight weeks of the season, but SRU had two sacks in the first half and finished the game with four tackles for loss and two additional QB hurries.
Â
Glover-Williams is the 10th Slippery Rock player to earn a PSAC Athlete of the Week honor this season. The Rock have had at least one Athlete of the Week in seven of the nine weeks this season.
Â
Slippery Rock improved to 8-1 overall and remained unbeaten in the PSAC West at 6-0, locking up the outright division title and earning the right to host PSAC East champion West Chester Nov. 10 in the PSAC title game.
Â
Before the PSAC championship, Slippery Rock will close out PSAC West play this Saturday at home against Gannon with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
