SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The surging Slippery Rock University volleyball team won for the fifth time in its last seven matches with a 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 17-25, 26-24) victory over Lock Haven University Saturday at Morrow Field House.

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory improves The Rock's record to 9-12 on the season overall and 6-7 in league competition. The loss drops the Bald Eagles' record to 8-14 overall and 3-10 in the PSAC.

Lock Haven held early leads in each set on Saturday, but Slippery Rock was able to close out the first, second and fourth sets with impressive runs to earn the quality PSAC win.

Sophomore
Erinn Kahoe continued what has been a strong 2018 season with another great outing Saturday to lead The Rock. She posted a new career-high in blocks with eight while also registering a team-high 13 kills and serving one ace.

Fellow middle hitter
Shayla Ray added 11 kills on a .333 attack percentage (11-2-27) to go with two blocks in the win as well. Her two blocks moved Ray past Kelly Gress and Lisa Bakaitis for ninth place at SRU in career blocks at 256.

In addition to guiding the offense with 41 assists, junior
Zoe Rivet also chipped in four kills, four aces and a pair of blocks. Sophomore libero
Jalyn Willard hit the 20-dig mark for a second straight match after tallying 23 on Saturday.

Kaley Fucci came off the bench to provide The Rock with nine kills, three blocks and 10 digs. Senior

Stephanie Jacobsen (six kills, 14 digs, two blocks) and freshman
Gabby Huck (three kills) rounded out The Rock's top performers against Lock Haven.

As a team, Slippery Rock led Lock Haven in nearly every statistical category including kills (54-43), attack percentage (.140-.119), assists (48-40) and aces (6-5). LHU held a narrow 11-10 lead in total blocks.

-With the win, the 2018 Rock team has now matched the 2012 and 2014 SRU squads for the most home wins in a season dating back to 2005 with five.

-Kahoe's eight blocks were the most by a Rock athlete this season and tied for highest single-match total over the last four years; Ray also had eight blocks in a match against IUP in 2015.

-Rivet has produced 12 aces over The Rock's last five matches, including back-to-back four-ace efforts.

-Ray is now eight rejections away from surpassing Heidi Slatcoff for eighth place at SRU for blocks in a career.

-A win against West Liberty on Tuesday would give SRU a three-match winning streak, its longest since beginning the 2017 season 8-0.

-Ray exits the weekend ranked fifth in the PSAC in attack percentage at .317.

-Slippery Rock will look to remain perfect at home against West Liberty on Tuesday. Previously, SRU has downed the Hilltoppers at home in 1983, 2014 and 2016.
