WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team blanked West Chester University 1-0 Saturday afternoon.
Brooke Testa registered SRU's game-winning goal in the 56th minute and
Kylie Downs made four saves in net en route to the shutout victory.
After a scoreless first half, Slippery Rock came out firing in the second period. At 55:44, Testa sent a ball on target, but WCU's McKenna Mullin made the save. However, off the rebound,
Rachel Edge fed Testa for another shot that she put into the back of the net for the score.
The Golden Rams looked to level the score moments later when Madison Baxter fired a shot, but it went wide.
In the 60th minute, WCU's Kaitlyn McFadden almost tied the game with a shot that just went high off the crossbar.
The Golden Rams' last chance to equalize was in the 72nd minute when Jesse Magee put one on target, but Downs was there for the save. Slippery Rock's defense played tough for the remainder of the contest holding on for the 1-0 victory.
Testa tallied five shots on goal in the contest while
Skye Kramer and Edge each registered one shot on goal apiece.
Downs recorded her seventh shutout of the season in net which is tied for seventh in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 11-4-2 overall and 9-4-2 in PSAC games while West Chester is 10-4-1 and 9-4-1 in league games.
SRU will await the results of Gannon and Indiana (Pa.) tonight to see if it has clinched a PSAC Tournament spot. A Gannon loss or tie sets the field of eight teams in the tournament, however the seeding is still all up for grabs. It is currently a race for 29 points for teams sitting in fifth place in the conference through ninth place.

GOAL: ROCK 1, WCU 0; 55:52: Testa scored off a rebound in front of the goal from Edge.
NOTES
- Slippery Rock led West Chester in shots on goal, 7-4.
- Testa recorded her third game-winning goal this season which is tied for second on the team in the category.
- Edge now has six assists on the season which is first on the team.
- As a team, Slippery Rock has recorded 10 shutouts and is second in the PSAC.
- SRU's 11 victories this season are the second-most the team has recorded since Jessica Griggs took over the program in 2015. In Griggs's first season, The Rock tallied 13 wins.
