SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team defeated Mercyhurst University 2-0 Wednesday afternoon to collect its 10th win of the 2018 campaign. Brooke Testa and Sofia Harrison tallied one goal apiece while Jordyn Minda and Skye Kramer each registered an assist.

Testa scored a goal in the first period while Harrison sealed the victory in the second period with a score. The Rock played excellent defense throughout the contest surrendering just one shot on goal.

It seemed that both teams were going to remain scoreless heading into the break, until Harrison crossed a ball into the box. Minda then played a shot in that was deflected and Testa cleaned it up for the score. It was Testa's fourth goal of the season and Minda's second assist of 2018.

Following the break, Slippery Rock kept putting shots on the scoresheet. At 63:55, Rachel Edge sent one on target, but MU goalkeeper Vilde Wold made the save. Moments later, Kramer fired a shot that got blocked, and the Edge let one loose toward the net, but it went wide.

It wasn't until the 74th minute that SRU made it a 2-0 lead. Kramer set up the corner kick and played it into the middle of the box. Harrison came out in front and headed her second goal of the season into the net.

The Lakers' last chance to get on the scoreboard was in the 87th minute when Emilie Bock fired a shot, but it went high, and Slippery Rock held on for its ninth shutout of 2018.

Goalkeeper Kylie Downs was rarely tested in the match, registering one save, but she did record her sixth shutout of the season.

With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 10-4-2 overall and 8-4-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic conference play, while Mercyhurst falls to 6-8-1 overall and 4-8-1 in PSAC games.
