SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Scouts from 15 different NFL teams were on hand Thursday morning to attend a Pro Day at Slippery Rock University.
 
"It was an exciting day for our program," said head coach Shawn Lutz. "Any time you can get representatives from 15 NFL teams on your campus and at your facilities on the same day is a big bonus for our program. We had scouts already mentioning players in next year's class, so to know that we are putting guys on their radar says a lot about Slippery Rock football."
 
Scouts ran 14 former Slippery Rock players and handful of players from other Division II schools through the standard combine testing, which included height and weight measurements, the 225-pound bench press test, vertical and broad jump testing, 40-yard dashes and various shuttle and three-cone agility drills.
 
The majority of the focus at the event was on SRU junior Titus Howard, who has declared early and is eligible for the NFL Draft. The scouts put Howard through extra drills and worked him hard during individual defensive back drills.
 
"Today was good for Titus," said Lutz. "They pushed him hard and wanted to see how he would handle instructions and how he would handle performing when he was tired. He didn't back down from the challenge and I think he learned a lot today."
 
Howard is being listed as the top SRU player with a chance of being drafted or receiving significant attention as an undrafted free agent, but the other SRU players working out Thursday are hopeful of impressing scouts enough to earn an invite to a preseason camp or offseason workouts at the next level.
