Tia Torchia scored with no time left on the clock to force overtime and
Bre Vodde netted the game-winning goal just 1:35 into the extra session to lead the Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team to a 13-12 win over Saint Anselm Saturday at Northeast Regional Park.

The Rock improve to 2-0 with the victory and kick off their annual spring break trip to Florida on a positive note. SRU will play two more games in the Sunshine State over the next week. Saint Anselm dropped to an even 2-2 with the loss.

Slippery Rock led by two goals, 10-8, with eight minutes left to play before Saint Anselm went on a 3-0 rally to take an 11-10 lead with 4:18 to play.

The Rock evened the score when Torchia found the back of the net with 1:46 to play, but the Hawks regained the advantage with just 18 seconds to play when Meaghan Sheehy scored her fifth goal of the game to make it 12-11.

Torchia won the ensuing draw and earned a free position attempt with just two seconds remaining. She scored as time expired to even the game at 12-12 and force the extra period.

The Rock won the opening draw control in overtime to set up the finish for Vodde, who split a pair of defenders on her way to netting the winning tally just 1:35 into the period.

It marked the second time in two games this season that SRU has scored a tying or game-winning goal in the final 30 seconds of a game after
Caitlynn Palladino scored the winner with 25 seconds left in the opener last week against Seton Hill.

Vodde finished with a hat trick to lead SRU, while Palladino and
Ally Culhane also finished with three points on two goals and one assist each. Torchia finished with two goals and team-highs of three draw controls and seven caused turnovers.

Chynna Chan scored two goals and came up with the draw control in overtime that set up the winning play.
Lisa Casagrande and
Erin Brown rounded out the scoring with one goal each.

Emily Bitka recorded seven saves and allowed 11 goals in earning the win between the posts.

Saint Anselm was paced by Sheehy with five goals and one assist. Breda Holland, Emma Palumbo and Rachel Henderson all scored two goals.

Zoie Cavotta took the loss in goal after recording seven saves and allowing 13 goals.

Slippery Rock posted a 26-24 edge in total shots in the game and was 11-of-15 on clear attempts. Saint Anselm managed advantages of 24-22 in ground balls and 14-12 in draw controls, but was just 10-of-20 on the clear and committed 25 turnovers.

Slippery Rock will continue its spring break trip Monday night at the University of Tampa with a 7:30 p.m. first draw.
