Rock wins fourth straight, 77-74 at Bloomsburg

Micah Till went for 32 points and 14 rebounds to lead The Rock to their fourth straight win, a 77-74 victory on the road at Bloomsburg Sunday.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team held Bloomsburg University to just three points over the final 4:43 Sunday to come away with its fourth straight win, a 77-74 victory in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover action from Nelson Field House.

The Rock improved to 6-2 overall and an even 2-2 in PSAC games with their second win in as many days and their fourth straight victory. Bloomsburg drops to 4-4 overall and 0-4 in PSAC games with the loss.

Sunday's game was a back-and-forth affair with neither team able to capitalize on significant momentum swings. The game featured 14 ties and 13 lead changes and never had a margin higher than six points either way.

Bloomsburg led 71-68 after a pair of free throws with 4:43 to play, but The Rock slammed the door from there, holding the Huskies to just three points the rest of the way and closing the game with a 9-3 run. Bloomsburg didn't make a single field goal in the final six minutes, scoring its last five points in the final 6:03 from the free throw line.

Slippery Rock hit three field goals, including a 3-pointer from Micah Till, and made two free throws over the final 4:42 to pull away for the win.

Till was dominant again, recording his fifth double-double of the season and his second of the weekend with game-highs of 32 points and 14 rebounds. He finished the weekend with 50 points and 27 rebounds in wins over Lock Haven and Bloomsburg.

Aaron McDonald added 13 points and six rebounds and Khyree Wooten scored 10 points and grabbed five boards. Merdic Green chipped in nine points, Christal Malalu added seven points and seven boards and Brandon Simmons scored six points and blocked three shots. Simmons has now blocked at least three shots in each of the last four games and has 16 total blocks over The Rock's current four-game winning streak.

Slippery Rock shot 44.1 percent from the field (30-of-68), 35.3 percent from 3-point (6-of-17) and 52.4 percent from the free throw line (11-of-21). The Rock posted a 48-39 edge in rebounding and scored 19 second chance points on 15 offensive boards, which helped offset a total of 22 fouls that sent Bloomsburg to the line for 31 free throw attempts.

The Huskies finished the game shooting 40.7 percent from the field (24-of-59), 29.4 percent from 3-point (5-of-17) and 67.7 percent from the free throw line (21-of-31). Both teams turned the ball over just eight times.

Bloomsburg had three players in double figures, led by Khary Mauras with 21 points. Christian Mortellite scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Hashim Moore scored 17 points.

Slippery Rock will have five days off before returning to action next Saturday, Dec. 9, on the road at Millersville University to close out the PSAC crossover schedule. The Rock will then return home next Sunday to host Carlow University in a non-conference game.
