Rock rolls by Carlow for sixth straight win

Merdic Green scored 21 points and Micah Till recorded his seventh double-double of the season as Slippery Rock picked up its sixth straight victory, 96-65 over Carlow.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team won its sixth straight game with a 96-65 victory over Carlow University in a non-conference game Sunday afternoon at Morrow Field House.
 
The Rock improved to 8-2 with the victory, while Carlow dropped to 1-8 with the loss. The Celtics managed to battle back from multiple double-digit deficits in the first half to trail by just nine at halftime, 44-35, but The Rock used a 19-4 run early in the second half to put the game out of reach.
 
Slippery Rock shot 50.6 percent from the field (41-of-81) after taking a season-high 81 attempts from the floor. The Rock were 34.8 percent from 3-point (8-of-23), but just 40 percent from the free throw line (6-of-15). SRU posted a 51-48 edge in total rebounds and used 20 offensive rebounds to score 25 second-chance points.
 
Carlow shot 36 percent from the field (27-of-75), 13.3 percent from 3-point (2-of-15) and 60 percent at the free throw line (9-of-15). The Celtics were outscored by a 52-32 margin in the paint.
 
Micah Till recorded his fourth straight double-double and his seventh of the season to finish with 20 points and a season-high 17 rebounds. He also had two steals, one block, one assist and no turnovers.
 
Merdic Green was the top scorer for SRU with 21 points, which include three buckets from beyond the 3-point line. Khyree Wooten added 14 points and Aaron McDonald scored 13 points, handed out eight assists and grabbed seven rebounds.
 
Bruce Spruell added 10 points and seven assists off the bench. Brandon Simmons scored eight points and blocked four shots, marking his sixth straight game with at least three blocks. Richard Bivens added six points and Tony Gates capped the scoring with four points.
 
Carlow was paced by Tony Acrie with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Charlie Scharbo also had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
 
Sunday's game marked the fifth of six non-conference games on the schedule this year for Slippery Rock, which improved to 5-0 in such games. The Rock will break for a week for finals before returning to action Dec. 19 at home against Ohio University Eastern for the final non-conference game of the season.
