SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team won its seventh straight game with a convincing 143-70 victory over Ohio University Eastern Tuesday night in non-conference action from Morrow Field House.

Slippery Rock improved to 9-2 on the year after breaking the school record for points in a single-game, topping the former record of 134 points, which was also set against Ohio University Eastern. The Panthers were making their season debut Tuesday night and don't traditionally count the game against SRU in their season standings as they play in the Ohio Regional Campus Conference.

The Rock used a massive size advantage and one of the best shooting efforts in school history to easily control the game. SRU finished one 3-pointer shy of the school record, knocking down 21-of-43 attempts from long range, which included making nine of their first 10 and a total of 16 3-pointers in the first half alone.

All 10 Rock players that saw time scored at least eight points and nine of the 10 finished in double figures.
Christal Malalu,
De'Shae Lee and
Brandon Simmons all finished with double-doubles, led by Malalu's 25 points and 16 rebounds. Lee finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds and Simmons scored 17 points and grabbed 11 boards in just 13 minutes of action.

Bruce Spruell scored 16 points, while
Richard Bivens,
Tony Gates,
Gabe Mack and
Micah Till all scored 12 points and
Khyree Wooten added 11 points.
Aaron McDonald capped the scoring with eight points to go along with five assists in just 13 minutes. Mack handed out a team-high eight assists and also grabbed six rebounds.

Slippery Rock shot 59.4 percent from the field (57-of-96), 48.8 percent from 3-point (21-of-43) and 66.7 percent from the free throw line (8-of-12). The Rock posted a 70-23 advantage in rebounding and an 83-5 edge in bench scoring.

Ohio Eastern shot 34.2 percent from the field (27-of-79), 26.7 percent from 3-point (12-of-45) and 66.7 percent from the free throw line (4-of-6).

Isaiah Green led the Panthers with 16 points. Zach Frizzi added 15 points, while Luke McDonough scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Devyn Verbeck scored 12 points to cap the top scorers.

Tuesday night's game marked the final non-conference game of the year for SRU, which posted a 6-0 mark in such games. The Rock will now break for the holidays before opening PSAC West play Dec. 30 on the road at Seton Hill University.
