SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Friday evening at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg swept The Rock with winning sets of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-10.
With the loss, Slippery Rock dropped to 8-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Leah Jones and
Beth Stumpf each recorded eight kills for The Rock.
Haley Defibaugh had 16 assists in the loss, while
Zoe Rivet had 10.
Courtney Oberlander registered a team-high 15 digs. Additionally, Jones (12),
Kristen C. Smith (11) and Rivet (10) all notched double-digit digs to round out The Rock's top performers.
Shippensburg broke a 14-14 tie in the first set with five-unanswered points and cruised to a 25-19 win and a 1-0 lead.
In the second set, the Raiders led 15-11 but The Rock worked to tie it up 21-21. The hosts closed out the set outscoring The Rock 4-2 to win 25-23 and stretch the lead to 2-0.
Shippensburg got out to a hot start in the third set, with an early 10-point run to lead The Rock 20-6. The Raiders ended the final set with a 5-2 run to earn the 15-point victory.
SRU will face Millersville Saturday at 1 p.m. in PSAC action.
