SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University softball team earned a doubleheader sweep of Mercyhurst in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action Wednesday at the SRU Softball Complex.
The Rock got a 5-1 win over the Lakers in game one before earning a dominating 11-2 victory in five innings in the nightcap.
With the sweep, The Rock stretched its win-streak to five as it improves to 14-13 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC West. Mercyhurst falls to 9-11 on the year and 2-6 in conference action.
Senior
Katie Kaiser extended her hitting streak to nine games with a 4-for-7 performance at the plate in addition to three RBI across two games. Junior
Caitlin Baxter recorded five RBI in game two, which is the most by a Rock player in a single game this season.
Sophomore lefty
Brooke Dawson earned her third straight win in game one to improve to 5-6 on the year. Dawson has now given up just one run over her last 21 innings pitched.

Dawson worked herself out of a jam in the third and fourth innings to preserve the lead. Dawson fought back from a two-on, no-out situation in the third, as well as a runner on third, one-out jam in the fourth.
Slippery Rock added two insurance runs in the sixth inning, while Mercyhurst was able to get one run back in the seventh before Dawson struck out Jamie Ward for the game's final out. Dawson pitched a complete game and recorded four strikeouts, while allowing six hits.
Kaiser (three hits, three RBI) and Herzog (three hits, two runs) led The Rock's offense in game one.
Game Two: Slippery Rock 11, Mercyhurst 2Baxter began The Rock's highest offensive output of the season in game two with a three-run home run to left center in the first inning, but Rachel DiBartolomeo brought Mercyhurst within one run in the third with a two-RBI home run to center field.
Slippery Rock would bat around in the third inning and record seven runs on six hits to bring the score to 10-2. The inning was highlighted by a two-run double by Baxter and a RBI singles by freshman
Megan Brown and sophomore
Emily Nagle.
Mercyhurst committed two fielding errors and junior
Nicole Siciliano scored Baxter on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to give The Rock an insurance run.
Nagle led The Rock in game two with a 3-for-3 showing at the plate with two runs and one RBI.
Sophomore pitcher
Paige Flore came in for starter
Carly DeRose (6-4) in the fourth inning and retired three consecutive Lakers and allowed one hit across two scoreless innings. DeRose earned the win as she struck out three batters across three complete innings.
The Rock will be back in action Friday at Gannon and Saturday at California (Pa.) before returning home to host Edinboro on Sunday.
