Rock falls at No. 9 West Chester, 18-11

No. 9 West Chester used a late run to pull away for an 18-11 victory over Slippery Rock Friday afternoon in PSAC action.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-11 decision at No. 9 West Chester University Friday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.
 
West Chester improved to 9-1 overall and 4-1 in PSAC action with the victory, while Slippery Rock dropped to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in PSAC action.
 
The Golden Rams used a 7-2 run over the final 12:01 of the first half to break the game open for an 11-5 halftime advantage. The Rock scored the first three goals of the second half and opened the final 30 minutes on a 5-1 run, but West Chester closed the door with a 6-1 run over the final 13 minutes to seal the victory.
 
West Chester finished the game with advantages of 37-22 in total shots and 19-12 in ground balls.
 
Slippery Rock was led by Erin Wilcox, who scored a hat trick for the sixth time in nine games this season. Ally Culhane added two goals and Kaytlin Callaghan and Anna-Marie Warrington each scored one goal and handed out one assist.
 
Chynna Chan, Caitlynn Palladino, Kaleigh Murray and Bre Vodde each scored one goal and Danni Wilson added one assist to cap the point scorers.
 
Jordan Wagner made 13 saves in goal against the top scoring offense in the league.
 
West Chester was led by Ashley Pyle with five goals and three assists. Hannah Cowan added four goals, Sami Barnett scored three goals and Dina Cifelli handed out four assists for the Golden Rams.
 
Paige Mitros allowed 11 goals and made six saves to earn the win in goal.
 
West Chester led 11-5 entering the second half but Slippery Rock rallied with two goals from Culhane and one each from Vodde, Chan and Palladino to cut the deficit to 12-10 with 19:14 to play.
 
From there, the Golden Rams slammed the door with a five-goal run to make it 17-10 with 1:46 to play.
 
Slippery Rock will have little time to recover as it will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at Kutztown for a 2 p.m. PSAC match.
