Callaghan nets OT winner at Kutztown

Kaytlin Callaghan scored the game-winning sudden victory goal 1:12 into overtime to lead Slippery Rock to a 12-11 win at Kutztown.

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kaytlin Callaghan scored a game-winning sudden victory goal in overtime to lead the Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team to a 12-11 victory at Kutztown University Saturday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.
 
Kutztown scored two goals in the final four minutes to tie the game at 11-11 and force overtime. Tia Torchia won the opening draw control of the extra period and Callaghan found the back of the net with the winning goal just 1:12 into overtime.
 
The victory improves Slippery Rock to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in PSAC action. Kutztown drops to 6-6 overall and 2-5 in league games.
 
Slippery Rock finished the game with a 14-11 advantage in draw controls and both teams posted 25 ground balls. Kutztown posted a 25-20 edge in total shots. The Rock were 16-of-18 on clear attempts and held the hosts to 17-of-22.
 
Callaghan finished with four points to lead the offensive attack, scoring two goals and handing out two assists. Erin Wilcox and Danni Wilson each scored two goals and Calitlynn Palladino and Chynna Chan each tallied one goal and one assist to round out the multiple point scorers.
 
Ally Culhane, Anna-Marie Warrington, Bre Vodde and Jordan Chan all scored one goal and Torchia handed out one assist to round out the scorers. Torchia also finished with a game-high seven draw controls.
 
Jordan Wagner improved to 7-3 on the season after recording six saves in goal. She also finished with a game-high eight ground balls.
 
Kutztown was led by Sarah Gabriele with three goals and two assists. Makayla Bowman added three goals and one assist and Lauren Huggins scored two goals and handed out two assists.
 
Jen Bergey took the loss in goal after allowing 12 goals and recording six saves.
 
Saturday's game marked the end of a three-game road swing for Slippery Rock this week. The Rock will return home to host Indiana (Pa.) Wednesday evening at 5 p.m.
