Photo GallerySLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team scored its first win over Bloomsburg in nearly three decades with a 14-9 victory in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Saturday from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Entering the game, The Rock had lost their last 13 consecutive meetings with the Huskies, a stretch that dated back to the 1988 season.

The victory improves Slippery Rock to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in PSAC action. Bloomsburg drops to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in league games.

The Rock scored two goals in the first minute of the game and opened up a 4-0 lead before eight minutes had passed en route to leading wire-to-wire for the win.

Bloomsburg would cut the early lead in half at 4-2 with 8:18 to play in the opening period, but Slippery Rock answered with a two goal run to close the half and opened the second period with three straight tallies to push the advantage out to 9-2 with 22:12 to play.

The Huskies would cut the advantage to five goals at 10-5 and again at 12-7 with 4:37 to play, but could never narrow the gap completely.

Slippery Rock was paced by
Erin Wilcox with four goals and
Kaytlin Callaghan with five points on one goal and four assists.
Chynna Chan added a hat trick and chipped in three caused turnovers on the defensive side.

Ally Culhane scored two goals, while
Anna-Marie Warrington and
Jordan Chan each scored one goal and handed out one assist to cap the multiple point scorers for SRU.

Caitlynn Palladino and
Bre Vodde each found the back of the net once and
Tia Torchia added one assist to account for the remaining point scorers. Torchia also grabbed a team-high five draw controls and picked up three ground balls.

Jordan Wagner improved to 5-2 after playing the full 60 minutes in goal and recording six saves.

Bloomsburg was led by Brigid Kyne with three goals and Tracy Rusen and Hannah Jaskuta with two goals and one assist each.

Abbey Burnett played the first 43 minutes in goal and took the loss after allowing 11 goals and recording eight saves. Brittney Hegarty played the final 17 minutes and allowed three goals to go along with three saves.

Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 31-17 in shots, 17-8 in draw controls and 26-24 in ground balls. The Rock defense was strong against the clear, holding Bloomsburg to just 12-of-23 on clear attempts.

Slippery Rock will hit the road next week for three games, beginning Tuesday at Lake Erie College for a non-conference match. The Rock will then travel to West Chester and Kutztown for back-to-back games next weekend.

Notes: Callaghan and Wilcox continue to climb the career scoring lists at SRU … Callaghan now has 105 goals and 154 points … she is ninth in goals, two shy of the No. 8 position and three shy of Wilcox in No. 7 … Callaghan is also fifth in career points and is two points shy of tying for No. 4 all-time … Wilcox ranks seventh in career goals with 108 and is four goals shy of tying for fifth all-time on that list … Her 117 points are the ninth most in school history and are five shy of tying for the No. 8 spot.
