Rock falls 18-10 at ESU

East Stroudsburg used a six-goal run and closed the first half on an 8-1 run to provide the difference in an 18-10 win for the Warriors Saturday.

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team dropped its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match of the year with an 18-10 defeat on the road at East Stroudsburg University Saturday.
 
The Rock drop to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in PSAC games with the loss, while the Warriors improve to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in PSAC action.
 
Slippery Rock scored the first goal of the game after just 1:01 and led 4-3 with 12 minutes to play in the first half, but East Stroudsburg strung together six straight goals over a seven minute span and closed the opening 30 minutes on an 8-1 run to break the game open.
 
Slippery Rock actually posted an advantage on the offensive side of the field with a 27-25 edge in shots, but ESU goalie Jessica Maxwell was the difference in the game. She made 12 saves in earning the win.
 
The Rock also posted a 22-21 edge in ground balls. ESU managed a 16-14 advantage in draw controls.
 
Erin Wilcox, Danni Wilson and Ally Culhane all tallied two goals to lead the SRU offense. Kaytlin Callaghan added one goal and one assist.
 
Bre Vodde and Tia Torchia each scored one goal and Anna-Marie Warrington and Caitlynn Palladino each added one assist to cap the scorers. The Rock were also credited with an own goal after the ESU keeper was deemed to put the ball into her own net after a scramble in front of the cage.
 
Jordan Wagner took the loss in goal after allowing 15 goals and recording three saves in 52 minutes in net. Taylor Balbierz played the final eight minutes and allowed three goals to go along with one save.
 
East Stroudsburg was led by Lauren Nunes with nine points on five goals and four assists. Kaitlynn Wiltraut added three goals and one assist and Chessie Rahmer had two goals and three assists.
 
Slippery Rock will return to action Tuesday with a 6 p.m. non-conference game on the road at Wheeling Jesuit University.
