SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Senior midfielders
Erin Wilcox and
Kaytlin Callaghan each tallied hat tricks and reached the 100-goal career milestone to lead the Slippery Rock women's lacrosse team to a 10-7 win over Edinboro University Tuesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
Â
Callghan entered the game needing just one goal to become the eighth player in program history to hit the century mark. She needed less than four minutes to find the back of the net and would add her 101st and 102nd goals later in the game. Wilcox entered the game needing three goals to reach the milestone. She scored her third of the night and team-high 12th of the year with 11:08 to play.
Â
The victory improves Slippery Rock to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in PSAC games. It also marked the 10th straight win for The Rock over Edinboro, as the Fighting Scots are now 0-10 against SRU since their inaugural season in 2009. The loss was the first of the season for Edinboro, which saw its season records dip to 4-1 overall and 0-1 in PSAC action.
Â
Slippery Rock finished the game with a 27-19 advantage in shots, but Edinboro keeper Paige Skinner kept her team in the game by posting 11 saves, including many against free position attempts. The Rock were just 6-of-13 on free position shots.
Â
The Fighting Scots managed advantages of 10-9 in draw controls and 18-17 in ground balls. Both teams were successful on 16 clear attempts with Edinboro going 16-of-20 and Slippery Rock going 16-of-18.
Â

Danni Wilson all netted one goal and
Jordan Chan and
Tia Torchia handed out one assist each to cap The Rock's scorers.
Â
Jordan Wagner made nine saves in goal to improve her season record to 3-1 after allowing a season-low seven goals.
Â
Edinboro was paced by Anna Purdy, who scored one goal and handed out two assists and was the only player on her team with more than one point. All seven goals scored by the visitors came from different players.
Â
The Fighting Scots scored the first goal of the game just 1:20 in and added a second tally before two minutes had passed to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
Â
The Rock responded, first with Callaghan's 100th tally, which started a 5-0 run to end the half. Wilcox got on the board two times, Callaghan added her second of the game and Vodde netted a goal with 1:05 before the half to send the game to the break with SRU up 5-2.
Â
Edinboro scored the first goal of the second half just 19 seconds in, but again SRU responded, this time with goals from Palladino and Sanders to make it 7-3 with 20:29 to play.
Â
Edinboro would cut the deficit to two goals at 8-6 and again at 9-7, but Slippery Rock put the game away with Callghan's third goal of the game with 2:34 to play.
Â
Tuesday's victory marked the fourth straight year Slippery Rock has won its first home game of the season.
Â
