Rock falls to East Stroudsburg, 3-0

The Slippery Rock volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to East Stroudsburg in PSAC action Saturday afternoon at Morrow Field House.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to East Stroudsburg Saturday afternoon at Morrow Field House. ESU narrowly won the first set 25-23, before taking the next two sets 25-18, 25-21 to earn the sweep in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.
 
With the loss, Slippery Rock drops to 12-17 overall and 4-11 in the PSAC. ESU also moves to 12-17 overall and 4-11 in the conference.
 
Leah Jones recorded her season-leading 11th double-double of the season in the loss with a 11-kill, 15-dig line.
 
Brooke Bostwick recorded nine kills to go along with a team-high three blocks.
 
Zoe Rivet led the passing game with 29 assists, while Courtney Oberlander registered 15 digs and had one service ace to round out The Rock's top performers.
 
In the opening set, Slippery Rock got out to a 14-8 lead, led by four kills from Jones, but East Stroudsburg tied things up at 14 with six unanswered points. The Rock battled back from ESU's run and held onto a narrow 21-19 lead, but the Warriors closed out the opener on a 6-2 run to win it, 25-23.
 
East Stroudsburg held a 16-9 lead in the second set until Slippery Rock put together a five-point run to cut it to 16-14, thanks to two kills from Bostwick and one apiece from Shayla Ray, Lamija Alisic and Kaley Fucci.  The Warriors outscored The Rock 9-4 down the stretch to come away with the 25-18 win.
 
In the third set, ESU got out to 15-9 lead that was followed by another five-point SRU run to cut it to 15-14. The Warriors stretched the lead to 22-16 by outscoring The Rock 7-3. Slippery Rock got back three points on ESU errors to cut it to three, 22-19, but it wasn't enough as East Stroudsburg closed it out on a 3-2 run to take the third set, 25-21.
 
The Rock will head to Edinboro Tuesday, Nov. 8 for a PSAC Northwest matchup.
