Rock earns 3-1 win vs. West Liberty

Brooke Bostwick led the SRU volleyball team with a career-high 14 kills as The Rock claimed a 3-1 win over West Liberty Tuesday night in the 11th annual Dig for the Cure match at Morrow Field House.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over West Liberty University Tuesday night in the 11th annual Dig for the Cure match at Morrow Field House. The Rock got out to a 2-0 lead with victories of 25-18 and 25-19 in the first two sets. The Hilltoppers fought back in the third frame with a 25-16 win, but SRU closed out the match with a 25-17 fourth-set victory.
 
The Rock extends their win streak to two as they move to 11-16 overall. The Hilltoppers saw their five-match win streak snapped as they drop to 19-12 on the year.
 
Brooke Bostwick led Slippery Rock in the win with a career-high 14 kills and three blocks. Kaley Fucci recorded a double-double on 10 kills and 10 digs, while Lamija Alisic also had 10 kills in the victory.
 
Slippery Rock tied its season-high block total in the win with 10. Shayla Ray registered seven blocks, while Fucci added five.  
 
Zoe Rivet had a career-night with 44 assists in the win, nine digs and one ace. Rivet has now recorded at least one ace in the last five matches, as she leads SRU with 36 aces on the year.
 
Courtney Oberlander and Leah Jones collected 26 and 23 digs, respectfully.
 
Amanda Leonard led West Liberty with a 14-kill, 17-assist, 10-dig triple-double.
 
In a back and fourth first set, Slippery Rock broke away from an 18-all tie by closing out the set on a seven-point run to win 25-18, led by three kills from Jones.
 
The Rock got out to a 9-3 lead in the second set and stretched that lead to eight points at 21-13. The Hilltoppers put together a four-point run to cut their deficit to four points, 21-17. Slippery Rock wrapped up the frame by outscoring West Liberty 4-2 down the stretch to win 25-19, thanks in part to a service ace from Beth Stumpf.
 
The Hilltoppers jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the third set, but Slippery Rock responded with six unanswered points led by four kills from Bostwick and two from Alisic. The Rock held a 12-11 lead midway through the set, but the visitors answered with a seven-point run of their own to take a 18-12 lead. West Liberty outscored Slippery Rock 7-4 for the remainder of the frame to earn the 25-16 win.
 
In the fourth set, West Liberty got out to a 13-8 lead before Slippery Rock tied it up with five unanswered points, led by Rivet's ace and individual kills from Jones, Stumpf and Ray. Amanda Leonard registered a kill for the Hilltoppers before The Rock went on another five-point run thanks in part to two kills from Fucci. SRU held onto that narrow lead until they wrapped up the set on a six-point run to win 25-17.
 
Slippery Rock will remain home this weekend as it hosts Kutztown Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. and East Stroudsburg Saturday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m.
