Rock swept by Seton Hill

The Slippery Rock volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to PSAC foe Seton Hill Friday night at the McKenna Center in Greensburg, Pa.

GREENSBURG, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to Seton Hill University Friday night at the McKenna Center.

With the loss, Slippery Rock drops to 8-10 overall and 1-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Seton Hill moves to 13-4 overall and remains perfect in PSAC play with a 5-0 mark.

The Griffins swept The Rock with wins of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-22.

Leah Jones and Brooke Bostwick led SRU in the loss with eight kills apiece.

Zoe Rivet produced 13 assists and a team-high two service aces. Haley Defibaugh recorded 12 assists of her own.

Courtney Oberlander led The Rock's defensive efforts with 16 digs, while Jones had 11.

Mattie Taggart had a season-high six blocks in the loss, while Shayla Ray recorded four blocks.  

Slippery Rock led Seton Hill 11-8 in the first set before the hosts scored five unanswered points to take a lead they would not relinquish. The Griffins outscored The Rock 14-4 down the stretch to take a 1-0 lead with a 25-15 victory.

In the second set, The Griffins broke a 4-4 tie with another five-point run to lead 9-4. SRU kept the remainder of the set within a few points, but the hosts closed out the second frame with five straight points to win 25-16.

SRU held a 16-12 lead in the third set, but once again Seton Hill went on a scoring run of six points to take an 18-16 lead. Both teams took turns leading for the rest of the set, but Seton Hill broke a 22-22 tie with three straight points on SRU errors to win the match 3-0 with a 25-22 win.

The Rock will take on California University of Pennsylvania Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
