ERIE, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University volleyball team went 0-2 on the second day of action at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Crossover at Gannon Saturday afternoon.
The Rock opened the day with a 3-1 loss to Millersville before dropping a close match to Shippensburg, 3-2.
After the weekend, SRU drops to 7-10 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
The Marauders edged The Rock 25-19 in the first and second sets, before Slippery Rock earned a 25-17 third-set win. Millersville earned the match victory and prevented a fifth set with a 25-21 win in the fourth frame.
Sophomore
Lamija Alisic led Slippery Rock against Millersville with 10 kills and 17 digs.Â
SRU had advantages in kills (42-38) and digs (67-62) over the Marauders.Â
In the second match of the day, SRU jumped Shippensburg with a 25-23 first-set win, before the Raiders came back for a 25-19 victory in the second set. Slippery Rock scored nine straight points in the third set to earn a 25-16 win. Ship edged SRU 25-20 in the fourth set and went on a 5-1 run to close out the fifth set to earn a 15-11 win the final frame.
Against Shippensburg, freshman
Beth Stumpf recorded a team-high 20 kills, while junior
Jaden Zimmer added 10 kills. Sophomore
Haley Defibaugh led SRU's passing with 29 assists, while classmate
Hanna Lombardo had 18 assists of her own. Sophomore
Courtney Oberlander led the team in digs with 21, while Stumpf registered 18 and Alisic added 17.
Despite the loss, SRU edged Shippensburg in kills (56-51) and digs (88-87). The Raiders held advantages in service aces (9-7) and total blocks (13-6).
