Box Score (HTML)ERIE, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University volleyball team dropped both matches on the opening day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Crossover at Gannon Friday.
SRU (7-8) opened the day with a 3-1 loss to Lock Haven before falling to Pitt-Johnstown, 3-0.
Junior
Leah Jones led The Rock against the Crimson Hawks with 13 kills. Sophomore
Haley Defibaugh recorded 29 assists, while classmate
Courtney Oberlander had 21 digs.
Slippery Rock held off a late LHU five-point run to narrowly win the first set, 26-24, but the Crimson Hawks went on to take the next three sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-17).Lock Haven (8-3) finished the game with advantages in kills (51-45), digs (82-70) and total blocks (13-7).
Against Pitt-Johnstown (8-2), sophomore
Lamija Alisic recorded a team-high seven kills. Sophomore
Hanna Lombardo had 14 assists, while Oberlander registered 14 digs.
Pitt-Johnstown went on a seven-point run midway through the first set to help them earn a 25-13 win. The Mountain Cats edged SRU in the second frame, 25-20, and went on to earn another 25-13 win in the third set.The Mountain Cats edged Slippery Rock in kills (47-23) and digs (61-46), but played The Rock evenly in total blocks, 7-7.
SRU plays Millersville Saturday at 12:30 p.m. before playing Shippensburg at 3:30 p.m.
