Box Score (HTML)SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University volleyball team dropped the home-opener to Alderson Broaddus Tuesday night at Morrow Field House, 3-2.
With the loss, Slippery Rock drops to 7-6 overall. Alderson Broaddus sees its record improve to 5-8.
SRU scored six unanswered points midway through the first set and then closed out the frame with four straight points to take the first set from the visitors, 25-20. Alderson Broaddus went on two five-point runs to fight back and take the close second set (25-23). The Rock broke a tie at 16-16 with a six-point run in the third frame to take the third frame with another 25-20 win. A-B had a 9-1 run in the fourth set and held off a late Rock comeback to earn the 25-21 victory and force a fifth set. The Battlers closed the final frame with a four-point run to come out on top, 15-12.
Junior
Leah Jones led The Rock's attack with a 16 kill-16 dig performance. Sophomore
Lamija Alisic posted a double-double of her own with 14 kills and 12 digs, while freshman
Kelsey Boyle added 11 kills.
Sophomore
Haley Defibaugh led the passing game for The Rock with 56 assists, while also adding 15 digs, while sophomore
Courtney Oberlander led the team in digs with 25.
Despite the loss, SRU finished with advantages in kills (61-56), service aces (9-4) and assists (60-55), while playing A-B evenly in digs (80-80) and coming up on the short end in total blocks (9-6).
Slippery Rock opens Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play this weekend at Gannon. SRU plays Lock Haven (Friday at 2 p.m.) and Pitt-Johnstown (Friday at 5 p.m.) before taking on Millersville (Saturday at 12:30 p.m.) and Shippensburg (Saturday at 3:30 p.m.).
