Rock cruises to 4-0 win vs. IUP

Slippery Rock extended its winning streak to three games with an emphatic 4-0 win against Indiana (Pa.) Saturday in PSAC action at James Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team extended its winning streak to three games with an emphatic 4-0 win against Indiana (Pa.) Saturday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action at James Egli Field.
 
The win improves The Rock's record to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in PSAC play. Indiana falls to 2-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference competition.
 
Saturday's match was never in doubt as The Rock scored first in the sixth minute and never looked back en route to the four-goal win. The victory was Slippery Rock's first over the Crimson Hawks since the 2012 season.
 
Dara Demich paced The Rock with a pair of goals. Brooke Testa and Allison Harbart also tallied goals for SRU with Andrea Felix and Tess Keeley adding assists as well.
 
Demich has now scored three goals in her last four games to move into a tie with Felix for first place on The Rock with 12 points. Testa's goal was the first of her collegiate career.
 
Rock goalkeeper Charlotte Elrod made two saves to register her second shutout of the season.
 
Demich put Slippery Rock on the board early when she took a tap pass from Felix and proceeded to beat a diving IUP goalkeeper to put SRU up 1-0 at 5:29. Slippery Rock made it 2-0 in the 29th minute when Testa put a ball just off the goalkeeper's hands into the right side of the net.
 
Harbart sent The Rock into halftime on a high note when she scored on a free kick from the left side of the zone to put SRU ahead 3-0 at the break.
 
SRU finished off its scoring barrage in the 61st minute when Keeley played a great pass into Demich, who then scored to the right for her second goal of the night to secure the 4-0 win.
 
For the game, Slippery Rock held edges over the Crimson Hawks in shots (14-4), shots on goal (9-2) and corners (5-2).
 
Slippery Rock will look for its fourth win in as many matches when it plays at Mercyhurst Sept. 23 for a 1 p.m. match.
