Rock cruises by Edinboro 19-6

Slippery Rock scored a season-high 19 goals and ran away with a 19-6 win at Edinboro Tuesday to keep its PSAC playoff hopes alive.

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team evened its conference record with a dominant 19-6 victory on the road at Edinboro University Tuesday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.
 
The Rock put together their best full 60-minute effort of the year and scored a season-high 11 goals in the opening half and finished with a season-high 19 goals to improve to 6-7 overall and 4-4 in PSAC games. The win was crucial to Slippery Rock's postseason hopes as it keeps the team in the hunt for its first playoff berth since the program was reinstated in 2007. West Chester and Seton Hill both picked up wins Tuesday to remain two games ahead of SRU tied for fifth in the standings. The Rock has one game in hand on both of those teams.
 
Edinboro saw its postseason hopes take a big hit and dropped to 6-6 overall and 3-6 in league games with the loss.
 
Slippery Rock was dominant from the early stages scoring two goals in the first minute of play and jumping out to a 10-2 lead 16:42 into the game. Edinboro got one of those goals back in the first half but The Rock scored the final goal of the opening period to lead 11-3 at the break.
 
Slippery Rock finished the game with three different 3-0 runs and a 6-0 run and never gave the Fighting Scots a chance to get back into the game.
 
Paige Costantino, Kaytlin Callaghan and Erin Wilcox all scored at least a hat trick as The Rock's trio of top scorers continued to pad their outstanding offensive statistics on the year. Costantino finished with a team-high seven points on three goals and four assists. Callaghan and Wilcox each added three goals and one assist.
 
Jasey Sanders chipped in two goals and one assist and Chynna Chan and Danni Wilson each added two goals. Caitlynn Palladino, Ally Culhane, Anna-Marie Warrington and Lexi Foster all scored one goal to cap the scorers for Slippery Rock.
 
Jordan Wagner earned the win in goal after recording seven saves and allowing a season-low four goals in the first 42:17. She gave way to Taylor Balbierz for the final 17:43 of the game. The backup keeper allowed two goals and made two saves.
 
Edinboro was paced by three goals from Rachel Olson and also got two goals from Emily Peters and one goal and one assist from Rebecca Martin. They were the only three players on the roster to record a point in the game.
 
Paige Skinner took the loss after allowing 12 goals and recording five saves in 31:05 in between the posts. Amanda Zbinovec allowed seven goals and made two saves in the final 28:55.
 
Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages in every statistical category. The visitors posted edges of 31-18 in total shots, 26-15 in shots on goal, 20-7 in draw controls, 19-13 in ground balls, 11-8 in caused turnovers and 9-7 in goalie saves.
 
The win improves The Rock to 9-0 all-time against Edinboro and is their second PSAC win in a row after scoring a 13-10 win over East Stroudsburg last Saturday. The team will have the chance to go above .500 in conference play for the first time this season when it travels to Millersville Friday for a 3 p.m. first draw. Slippery Rock will then play the next day at Kutztown at 2 p.m. to cap their current three-game road swing.
