SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team scored seven straight goals late in the second half to force overtime before dropping a heartbreaker in double overtime, 14-13, to No. 18 Seton Hill University Tuesday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Seton Hill led just 5-3 at halftime before the teams combined to score 16 goals in the second half, including nine from The Rock to make it 12-12 after 60 minutes.

It looked like the Griffins were going to pull away midway through the second half when a three-goal run gave them an 11-5 lead with just 15:12 to play, but Slippery Rock stormed back into the game.

The Rock got four goals from Kaytlin Callaghan, two from Paige Costantino and one from Erin Wilcox to complete a 7-0 stretch and take their first lead of the game, 12-11, with 6:09 to play.

Seton Hill answered to tie the game at 12-12 with 4:52 to play and neither team could find the winner in regulation. The Rock had two chances inside the final 10 seconds, but backup Griffin keeper Melanie Morgret made both saves to force the extra session.

Slippery Rock won the opening draw control of the first overtime and scored just 48 seconds in when Callaghan scored off an assist from Costantino to make it 13-12. It looked like that score would stand after SRU gained possession in its defensive zone with under one minute to play, but an unforced turnover gave possession back to Seton Hill and the Griffins capitalized by tallying the tying goal with 36 seconds left to force a second, sudden victory overtime session.

In the second session, Seton Hill won the opening draw and never lost possession. The Griffins got two shots off and maintained possession after each miss before Christine Palmeri found the net 1:59 into the period to seal the victory.

The win improved Seton Hill to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in PSAC action, while Slippery Rock drops to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in league games.

The Griffins were dominant all night in the draw circle and that became the deciding edge in the game as they posted a 22-9 advantage in draw controls, spearheaded by 11 from Emma Simmers. Seton Hill also managed advantages of 34-21 in total shots, 27-18 in shots on goal, 25-22 in ground balls and 15-7 in caused turnovers. Slippery Rock was 17-of-23 in clear attempts, while Seton Hill was 9-of-11.

The Rock were paced by seven points from Costantino with four goals and three assists. Callaghan added five goals, all in the final 14 minutes of regulation or overtime. Wilcox and Jasey Sanders each scored two goals and Caitlynn Palladino added one assist to cap the point scorers.

Seton Hill was paced by Renee Kania with three goals and four assists, while Palmeri added three goals and two assists and Simmers and Keagan Pontious each scored three goals.

Morgret played the final 8:46 of regulation and remained in net during the overtime to earn her first win of the season. She allowed three goals and made two saves.
