ERIE, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Mercyhurst Satruday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action from the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
The Lakers jumped The Rock in the first set with a 25-17 win to take a 1-0 match lead, before earning a 25-15 win in the second set to push the lead to 2-0. Slippery Rock played Mercyhurst tight in the third set that featured 13 tie scores and five lead changes, but was handed a straight set defeat after being edged 28-26 in the finale.
Leah Jones led The Rock with nine kills.
Haley Defibaugh tallied team-highs of 20 assists and 15 digs. Additionally for The Rock,
Courtney Oberlander registered 14 digs, while
Jaden Zimmer and
Kristen Smith had three blocks apiece.
The Lakers posted advantages in kills (50-28), attack percentage (0.252-0.069), digs (78-65) and total blocks (7-5), while The Rock led in service aces (4-2).
With the loss, Slippery Rock drops to 10-23 overall and 3-17 in league play, while Mercyhurst improves to 15-15 overall and 10-9 in the PSAC.
The Rock will close out the season next weekend against California (Pa.) on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. and Seton Hill on Nov. 14 at 1 p.m.
