ERIE, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to Gannon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action Friday evening at the Hammermill Center.
In the opener, Gannon snuck past The Rock 25-11 to take a 1-0 match lead, before cruising to a 25-13 win in the second to push the lead to 2-0.
In the third set, SRU trailed Gannon 13-11, but went on a 7-1 run to take an 18-14 lead. The Golden Knights responded with a 10-1 run of their own to lead 24-19. The hosts held off The Rock's late comeback bid and cruised to a 25-22 win.
Leah Jones and
Brooke Bostwick led The Rock in the loss with six kills apiece.
Haley Defibaugh put up 15 assists, while
Courtney Oberlander tallied 18 digs. Additionally,
Jaden Zimmer recorded four blocks.
With the loss, Slippery Rock falls to 10-22 overall and 3-16 in PSAC action. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights improve to 21-7 overall and 14-5 in league play.
The Rock continues PSAC action Saturday afternoon with a match against Mercyhurst at 2:05 p.m.
