EDINBORO, Pa.- Despite a late push, the Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost 3-1 to Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action Tuesday night at McComb Fieldhouse.
The Fighting Scots got out to a 2-0 lead with wins of 25-15 and 25-17 before SRU rallied with a 25-18 win in the third set. The hosts took the fourth set 25-12 to get the victory.
Leah Jones led The Rock in the loss with nine kills, while also adding 19 digs. Additionally,
Jaden Zimmer recorded seven kills (0.429 attack percentage) and
Beth Stumpf added six kills of her own.
Haley Defibaugh put up 17 assists, while
Hanna Lombardo had 10. Defensively,
Shayla Ray recorded four blocks and
Courtney Oberlander registered 21 digs to wrap up SRU's leaders.
Challen Litwiler and Victoria Severo led the Fighting Scots with 11 and 10 kills, respectfully. Sydney Trathen tallied a match-high 19 assists, while Marah Maycock had 22 digs.
Edinboro finished with advantages in kills (40-32) and total blocks (8-6), while The Rock edged the hosts in digs (76-72).
With the loss, Slippery Rock drops to 10-21 overall and 3-15 in PSAC play. Edinboro improves to 28-2 overall and 17-1 in league action.
SRU will head to Erie this weekend to take on Gannon (Friday at 7 p.m.) and Mercyhurst (Saturday at 2:05 p.m.).
