SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University volleyball team was defeated by Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rival Clarion, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Morrow Field House.
SRU drops to 8-11 overall and 1-5 in the PSAC with the loss, while Clarion goes to 9-8 on the year and 5-1 in conference action.
Clarion closed out a very close first set with a 7-2 run to earn the 25-19 win and get out to a 1-0 lead over The Rock. SRU was unable to keep it close in the second set, as the Golden Eagles took the 25-16 win. The back-and-forth third set featured six ties and five lead changes, however Clarion came out on top, 25-20, to earn a sweep of The Rock, 3-0.
Freshman
Beth Stumpf recorded her second-straight double-digit kill performance with 10 kills in the loss, while sophomore
Lamija Alisic added nine kills of her own. Sophomore
Haley Defibaugh passed out 19 assists, while classmate
Hanna Lombardo had 12. Sophomore
Courtney Oberlander also registered a team-high 16 digs in the loss.
Clarion edged Slippery Rock in kills (48-36), digs (44-41) and total blocks (7-3).
Slippery Rock hosts Edinboro in PSAC action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Morrow Field House.
