Rock loses to Edinboro in three sets

The Slippery Rock volleyball team lost to Edinboro 3-0 Tuesday night at Morrow Field House.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference foe Edinboro 3-0 Tuesday night at Morrow Field House.
 
The Rock fall to 8-12 overall and 1-6 in PSAC play, while Edinboro goes to 17-2 overall and 6-1 in the conference.
 
SRU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set and held on until Edinboro tied it up at 15-15 and 16-16 before taking the lead for themselves. SRU worked hard to tie it up twice more at 20-20 and 21-21, but Edinboro closed out the set with a 4-1 run to take the first frame, 25-22. In the second set, the Fighting Scots had seven and six-point runs and closed out the set with five unanswered points to earn a commanding 25-8 win. Edinboro got out to a 15-8 lead in the third set before Slippery Rock put together five straight points to cut it to two, 15-13. The Fighting Scots wrapped up the third set with a 10-1 run to earn the 25-14 win.
 
Freshman Beth Stumpf had a team-high six kills, while sophomore Brooke Bostwick and freshman Kelsey Boyle had four kills apiece. Sophomores Haley Defibaugh and Hanna Lombardo led the passing game with nine and eight assists each, while sophomore Courtney Oberlander had eight digs.
 
Edinboro finished the match with advantages in kills (43-23), assists (40-19), digs (46-35), service aces (2-1) and total blocks (6-2).
 
SRU hosts Mercyhurst Friday at 7 p.m. in the annual Dig for a Cure match.
