Rock falls to Seton Hill, 3-1

The Slippery Rock volleyball team lost to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference competitor Seton Hill 3-1 Friday night at Morrow Field House.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University volleyball team was handed a 3-1 loss by Seton Hill in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action from Morrow Field House Friday night.
 
With the loss, Slippery Rock falls to 10-17 overall and 3-11 in the PSAC. Seton Hill improves to 19-7 on the year and 10-4 in the conference.
 
The Rock got out to a 3-1 lead in the first set, but Seton Hill scored four straight points to take control of the set. SRU would tie it up seven times, until Seton Hill went on a 6-1 run to build a steady 18-13 lead. Slippery Rock cut it to two points at 18-16, but would get no closer, as the Griffins went on to take the first set, 25-20.
 
In the second set, The Rock got out to a 14-8 lead on the Griffins, thanks to four kills from Leah Jones. Seton Hill cut it to two points at 14-12, but SRU continued to pour it on for the remainder of the set as the hosts went on to win 25-16.
 
SRU led for the first half of the third set, holding a 10-7 lead, until the Griffins went on a 7-1 run to take a lead that they would hold for the rest of the set. The Rock cut it to two at 18-16, but Seton Hill closed out the set with a 7-2 advantage to win 25-18.
 
The Griffins jumped The Rock in the fourth set with a 6-0 start. The teams then exchanged four point runs, but Seton Hill controlled the tempo of the rest of the set, as they went on to win 26-15.
 
Jones led The Rock in the loss with an 18-kill, 13-dig performance. Beth Stumpf had a double-double of her own with 10 kills and 16 digs. Hanna Lombardo had 27 assists, while Haley Defibaugh passed out 24. Courtney Oberlander led her squad in digs with 25.
 
The Rock held a 56-51 kill-advantage, as well as advantages of 54-51 in assists and 72-65 in digs. The Griffins edged SRU in service aces (4-3) and total blocks (6-1).
 
The Rock will host California (Pa.) Saturday at 2 p.m. on Senior Day. Seniors Anna Mease, Megan Bush, and Kristen Smith will be honored before the match.
