Laurie Lokash recorded her 600th win Friday night with a 3-0 victory over Cheyney, as The Rock went 1-1 on the first day of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover action held at Kutztown University.
Lokash becomes the 22nd NCAA Division II coach to reach the 600-win milestone, while only 10 of those are still active in DII coaching. Her 600-494 record in her 32nd years at the helm of the Rock Volleyball program makes her the winningest coach in PSAC history.
Slippery Rock goes to 9-15 overall and 2-10 in the conference after the first day of the crossover after earning a 3-0 sweep of Cheyney and falling to Kutztown, 3-0.
Lokash's 600th win came in SRU's strong showing against Cheyney. SRU opened the match with a commanding 25-8 first-set win over the Wolves. The teams played close for the first half of the second set, with the score tied at 9-9, until SRU scored four unanswered points that helped the team pull away from Cheyney and go on to win 25-16. SRU went on a seven point and eight point run in the third set that helped them earn another 25-8 win and sweep the Wolves, 3-0.

Hanna Lombardo had 15 assists and three service aces, while classmate
Haley Defibaugh had 10 assists.
Prior to SRU's win over Cheyney, The Rock lost to host Kutztown, 3-0. SRU opened the first set with a 5-1 lead and led by as much as five points on multiple occasions, but the hosts tied it up at 24 and then outscored The Rock 4-2 to end the match with a 28-26 win. In the second set, Slippery Rock got out to a 2-0 lead until Kutztown scored six straight points to take a lead they would maintain for the remainder of the set. Beth Stumpf and a service ace by classmate
Shayla Ray to cut it to three, 17-14. SRU cut it to three again at 19-16, but Kutztown closed out the match with a 6-2 run to earn a 25-18 win. The Golden Bears jumped The Rock in the third set with an 11-3 lead. The closest Slippery Rock would get would be six points (16-10), as Kutztown went on to earn a 25-16 win.
Stumpf had 16 kills in the first match for Slippery Rock, while junior
Leah Jones added 10 kills and a team-high 19 digs. Both Stumpf and Jones had three service aces apiece for The Rock. Defibaugh passed out 19 assists, while Lombardo added 15 assists in the loss. Both Defibaugh and sophomore
Courtney Oberlander recorded double-digit digs with 12 and 13, respectfully.
Despite the loss, Slippery Rock held a 42-32 advantage over Kutztown in kills, as well as advantages of 9-5 in service aces and 68-50 in digs. The Golden Bears out-blocked The Rock 14-1.
Slippery Rock will head to East Stroudsburg Saturday to take on ESU (10 a.m.) and West Chester (3:30 p.m.) from Koehler Fieldhouse. Live stats will not be available for either match. But updates will be posted to the Official SRU Athletics Twitter page (
